Instead of updating system preferences, it modifies the request directly by using the observer service and observing the "http-on-modify-request". Firefox > Modify Headers > ‘Add’ > (Name) Cache-Control > (Value) no-transform > Configuration > (check) Always on……

This solves the problem of compressed data to my laptop, via T-Mobile (UK) 3G broadband link.

I prefer Firefox over IE7, but the latter sometimes inevitable. There must be a similar solution (can’t find it)!?!
